RECENT NEWS / EVENTS

  1. Sept 6, 2010 - '00 V-Red Prospects Announce Id Camp Dates

  2. Formerly the V-Red Regional team, the 2000 V-Red Prospects are revamping their team for the 2011 season and has made great strides to assemble a team that can compete at any of the top tournaments at the 2000 age level.

The 2000 Prospects program will run from April 1st to June 1st with practices through the winter when possible. The team will compete in 4 tournaments, focusing on the top tournaments in the Maritimes and one in Quebec or Boston.

    About the V-Reds program:

Just to give you a bit of background about our Program, the V-Red Prospects is a non-profit spring hockey program operated in conjunction with the UNB Varsity Reds men’s team. The V-Red Prospects program is the top elite hockey development program in Atlantic Canada having 185 players drafted to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey league in the past five years alone, 39 in the 2010 draft. The goal of our program is not to make money but to develop players both on and off the ice…the Prospects motto is “You’re a person a lot longer than you’re a player” and our 2000 team is a firm believer in this.

    TEAM PHILOSOPHY:

Our team philosophy is quite simple, we’re a team, we practice as a group and work hard to have the players play as a unit. We do not promote or encourage 1 or 2 kids trying to skate through 5 players to score. We are working to assemble a team of the top 2000 age players from the region and surrounding area, with a few players from outside. The goal of this strategy is to have team practices where the majority of the team is present at practices, allowing the team to practice as a unit. Practicing together allows them to gel and work together as a team in tournaments.

    COACHING:

Frank Leblanc will be the head coach again this year, If you’re not familiar with Frank here is a bit of his background: 4 years in Quebec Major Junior with the Laval Titan where he was a Memorial Cup Finalist, went on to play for UNB (94-97), CIAU All Canadian’s and was a University cup silver medal finalist. From 97-2002 he played professional hockey in Europe and was an Allen Cup finalist in 2003. Frank has also worked with many current and former NHL coaches, Jacque Martin, François Allaire, and Bob Hartley to name a few.

    PROGRAM:

Our program runs from April 1st – May31st, we believe that spring hockey should end in the spring, giving the kids time to do other sports and family activities. Participating in 4 tournaments as opposed to travelling for games every weekend allows for weekend downtime for players, which keeps them motivated to play when it’s time to get back on the ice. It also allows us to focus on individual and team skills by being able to have consistent and scheduled practice time.

    FEES:

With respect to fees for our program, we budget to break even. We also have some unique programs and opportunities to greatly reduce or even eliminate fees. For example, we hold a yearly V-Red raffle with top-notch prizes such as trips for 4 to an NHL hockey game with all expenses paid, 7-day Florida condo, etc. Each team member is given a number of tickets to sell and ticket sales can be put towards fees. We also have a sponsorship program, which provides tax receipts to individual sponsors.

    ID CAMPS:

The 2000 V-Red Prospects will be holding 2 ID camps the weekend of September 18th, 2010 at the Aitken University Centre.

    September 18th - 11:00am - 12:15pm

    September 19th - 10:00am - 11:30am

    Other Benefits:

Along with being part of a close team with highly skilled coaches, V-Red
Players have access to UNB hockey programs throughout the year, which are exclusive to V-Red Prospect players. For example, we have an incredible power skating program, which runs through the winter as well as many other development opportunities such as the renowned Advanced Camps.

If you are interested in being a part of a program with highly skilled coaches, top-notch development and a team oriented approach and feel you have the ability to compete at the highest level for the 2000 age group please contact us about our upcoming ID camps.
